Priceless

I picked this up from one of the homies. He had a few copies sitting in a pile of 45's that had been in the family. We noticed it was from Seattle. I traded it off for a long time want of mine. I figured it couldn't be too hard to find. Well, I have searched high and low with no luck. I find it hard to believe that with all the people I know in Seattle from record dealers to old school djs, band members etc. Literally NO ONE knows anything about this record. Come on people! There's probably a stash of these sitting in the basement in the central district somewhere. Either that or all the copies are in a king county landfill with the rest of the local stuff. If you have ANY information on this record, band, label or other release' don't hesitate to contact me. Until then, enjoy this modern soul two stepper.

Seattle Pure Dynamite

I have been buying records for more then half my life now, killing time on weekends at used record shops, garage sales etc. I remember the day I grabbed this 45 by a group called Seattle Pure Dynamite. It was 25 cents and I just bought it on the band name alone. I listened to it when I got back home and thought it wasn't that good. I threw it in a box with a bunch of other 45's. More then a decade later I pulled it out and gave it a spin. WOW!!!! This record is g-r-e-a-t. I thought it's funny how I wasn't into it when I found it but now it's one of my favorite modern soul tunes. I tracked down the band members to see if they had any other records and they informed me that this was the only record they ever did to the tune of 50 copies. They could hardly afford to record in a real studio let alone press a record up. These copies were used as their demo and most were sent off to labels hoping to get a real record deal. It's to bad that never became a reality because these guys were good.

Rare Unreleased "Black On White Affair"

Black On White Affair

Many of you are aware about a project I put together a few years back for the Light In The Attic records label called "Wheedles Groove" a collection of original soul & funk tracks from Seattle during the late 60's early 70's era. While working on this project I was able to meet some of the actual members from these bands, radio djs from that era and family members. For the record release party we resurrected Robbie Hill's Family Affair & Bro-Ham, as well as performances from Overton Berry and Patrinell Staton. Historic night to say the least. I remember when I approached the label with my idea they weren't really trying to hear me. Not sure what made them change their minds but they ended up getting with the program. However the actual cd that was released contained tracks that they wanted on the comp and they removed some that I had highly suggested. I also, made the comment to them while at their office one day that they should release a dvd as well. Matt the label owner just gave me a giggle. A month passes and they call me up to ask if they can interview me for a documentary they are doing on Wheedles! Here is the trailer for it.

I did the final interview with the films producer last week and it's slated for release in 09'. You can see the original studio these records were made at and hear me talk about the legendary engineer Kearny Barton in the movie trailer. While we were there, being the record hunting digger that I am - I asked about any other groups that never came out, master tapes, etc. Kearny says "I'll be right back" and walks back in the studio 10 minutes later with a 1/4" reel tape in a box labeled "Black On White Affair". He explains that its the only tape he has from the soul funk stuff he did during that time. Soul Swingers, and all others have vanished. He has no idea where they are at. His place is a total trip. There is stuff literally everywhere. It looks like he hasn't cleaned it and or added any new equipment since the late 60's except for a cd burner. I bet if he let anyone clean the place up some real gems could be found. Anyway, I got the songs from that master reel. I wish to share with you this previously unreleased track from the same recording sessions as "A Bunch Of Changes" and "Bold Soul Brother, Bold Soul Sister".

You'll notice a tape drop out in the song that probably held this up from being released. I also, wanted to post this video that a Seattle central community college student did on the Hill Brothers.

I'm still looking and searching for original records, pictures, posters, master reels, and any information on Seattle or Northwest region Soul, Funk, and Disco from the 70's & 80's. If you were in any of these bands, a dj back then, a promoter or manager, friends of, or have any of this stuff please contact me. It would be greatly appreciated. djsupreme@comcast.net

Zune x Supreme La Rock x FCZ = Big Fun

I was requested to throwdown at the official Microsoft Zune christmas party for the second year in a row. It was real official. These guys know how to throw a party for sure and spare no expense! It was great to find out my partner in crime Four Color Zack was the "other" dj that I was gonna rock with. That's my man and we tend to tear it down every time. This occasion was no different. The only real damper to the event was the weather. It started to snow around 8:30. Although it was packed out with a decent crowd it could have been a little thicker. They had the dope buffet, open bar, artitst drawing your pic on the spot, photographers, 5 bands, Break Dancers, Pool Tables, Air Hockey, Poker, Black Jack, etc. Like I said Bill Gates spares no expense!!! I would post more pics but I couldn't take any, I was deejaying.

I had the pleasure to play this past Thursday night at the "GEMS" sneaker shop soiree in downtown Seattle, Wa. It happend to be the art gallery walk so tons of people came through. I got to play some really good stuff from original breaks to loft disco, latin, brazillan, funk 45's, boogie and so on. Crowd was feeling it as well so that was a good thing. They are gonna do some more events in the near future. I will record my set next time and post it up. However there's nothing like being there live. So watch the calendar and try to stop by. Talk Box * Vocoder * Auto Tune Madness

I really honestly can't stand EVERYONE using the auto tune efx on their vocals lately. I will admit though that T Pain is the best at it. Kanye's latest release is a full album using auto tune on every single track. Diddy plans on doing the exact same thing. Wow! I owned a Roland rack mount vocoder in the 80's and wish I would have never sold it. That was a classic unit and made popular through boogie tracks back then. Roger Troutman made the talkbox his thing and I even remember Peter Frampton using a talkbox on a track. The first time I ever heard the auto tune was on Cher's track "Believe". I remember thinking that it was pretty cool and I knew it was not a talk box or a vocoder. My man Kon posted this up on soulstrut and I had to share it with everyone. It's pretty ill! It's the first known use of the talk box. Yes everyone from Roger to T Pain has jacked this mans swagger. Peep this out.

Giving Thanks

Every year one of the best venues in Seattle does an annual "Giving Thanks" party the night before thanksgiving. It's a free event to thank the true party people for their support year around and it's also a food drive to support local homeless shelters etc. This is the 4th year I have done this event with them and it's always a great time.

Past djs have included Vice, Scene and Victor Menegaux. This year I rocked with my brother from another one of Vegas' finest - DJ Five. Super dope dj and all around cool dude. If you have never caught one of his sets I highly suggest next time your in sin city you look him up. You won't be sorry. Special shouts go out to JB for the non stop shots of XO!

For those that weren't able to attend this party I have posted the first 30 minutes of my dj set for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!

San Diego

I played in San Diego this weekend. I rocked the spot with my man Beatnick (Sleeping Giant) and Cros 1 (Armory). Spot was called "The Office" a small dark venue in the North Park district.

I have actually really been feeling the smaller spots like this lately as opposed to the big nightclubs. It's more intimate and the personal interaction with the crowd is great. I got to play lots of classic Hip Hop, Boogie, & Loft Disco. It was a pleasure to rock along the sides of the cities greats like these two guys.

Cros 1 (Armory)

Cros 1 is a legendary b boy event promoter world wide and owner of hip hop store/clothing brand "ARMORY".

I visted both retail locations and was laced with gear. Thanks my man! Oh yes the benefits of being a dj.

Beatnick (Sleeping Giant)

Beatnick is a dj and member of the "Sleeping Giant" crew. All these guys are dope and SD legends. You def need to check for them. I'll never forget the time Mikey Beats offered me Skittles & Hennessey for breakfast! I haven't seen Beatnick since the last time I played in SD at the "Confidential". It was great to see my friends. Speaking of friends I was really surprised to walk in and be greeted by Kutfather! I haven't seen this guy in years. For those that don't know he was one of the first artists I signed to my record label Conception and one of the first artists Jake One did production for. We along with Soul Uno (DVS Crew) started and ran the best hip hop night Seattle has ever had called "The Foundation" at Art Bar. Cats still talk about it to this day!!! It came to an end when violence erupted at another venue in the city and officials started shutting down night clubs.

The "Super Fly" Caddy

I was sitting around one day about three years ago looking up at one of the blaxploitation movie posters on my wall. I started to think about stuff I collect from the 70's era and was wondering where the actual pimped out cadillac from "Super Fly" was at? I wanted it! I got on my hunt and located it in a car Musuem in Switzerland. It's not for sale. However, I have a theory that everything has it's price. Too bad I don't have Warren Buffet pockets or it would have been a done deal. On my quest to find this fine automobile I came to discover it was customized by Dunham Coaches. They made several models for the true PLAYERS of the era. The original one used in the movie belonged to a cat called K.C. Here is a video of these original customized vehicles.

So last night at about 3:30AM I'm on ebay looking for anything fly that I can find and I came across this!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220305587351&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=

I will probably never own the original actual car from the movie. However, any 70's Dunham Coach customized Cadillac will do. Maybe one of these days I will be fortunate enough to own a piece of this historic flyness.

I've Finally Arrived

That's right world. Yours truly has finally arrived here to BLOG on the net. Share music, thoughts and ideas with you. I'm a working DJ which means I keep pretty messed up hours. For the most part I'm up all night long. It's currently 2:30 AM PST. I would usually just be leaving a club right about now. I took tonight off and of course I'm still up! Anyways I want to personally welcome you to my blogspot and feel free to share it with others.
