I've been waiting three years to see this documentary since it was finished. I just watched it and had no idea it would be so sad. Conrad Johnson is a legend and we not only need but can use more people like him in the world. People that actually care about their craft and about others. I'm glad I picked up all of their albums they recorded and released early on in the 90's when no one was really checking for them yet. They are some of the best and favorite records in my collection.

It's been an active last few weeks for me to say the least. I rocked a capacity crowd at Madrone in San Francisco, Ca. for their famous Motown on Mondays party.
Shout out to Gordo & Gigante for promoting such a great event!
I shot back to Seatown just in time to spin the private party for the Brown family.
Round ball royalty and seattle super sonics legend Downtown Freddy Brown brought his homie Slick Watts along to kick with us...
After that I was off to capitol hill for some block party activities...
Rocked the Alive & Well x Vitamin Water x Slow Roast Records bbq with Jake One, DJ Klever & DJ Craze. That party was straight bananas!!!
Ended the weekend with the 5 Star boat cruise which could've possibly been the best event this past week?!

I caught wind of these about a year ago. Biz Markie mentioned he had 'em and was going to bring them out to the park jam in NYC this summer and yesterday he did just that.
As if it wasn't ill enough that he busted these out he totally killed his dj set to top it off, one of the best i've seen him do. He had the dj nerds and the internet going nuts once the word got out.
Not sure how many were manufactured and in fact he seems to be the ONLY person to have them and has two sets. Ha! Nobody beats the Biz.... Someone posted why? My response is why not?!
I most def want a pair of these just for the novelty factor if anything. I'll lean on Marcel and see if he'll point me in the right direction..... We'll see.

My hunt for local northwest soul & funk continues. Today I bring you Essence on the Tac Town Sounds record label. Released in '83 this was the only project on the label. I love the logo and may do a t shirt to honor the forgotten endeavor. I've been trying to track this record down for at least 5 years since one was discovered in a Vancouver, Canada thrift shop by a fellow dj. I'd never heard of the group or seen a copy prior to the discovery. After searching high and low to find anything out about this record I stumbled upon one of the band members who had some copies. So he thought! Turns out he had one damaged warped copy in his possession. No bueno. After putting his feelers out there for me he was able to track down a copy that a friend still had. It was also, not mint but a good enough reference copy for the time being. Many older local djs had heard of the record and even owned it at one point. It was distributed through the local NWDMA record pool upon its release. Hard to believe i'd never seen one, heard it before or even found more copies once I was on the hunt. Seems to be a pretty rare one.
It's too late to include on my latest compilation i've put together for the Light In The Attic records label as that project just wrapped up last week. I'm still going to do my best to do a proper licensed re-issue of this one. It's just so good! If anyone out there can help me with a good clean mint copy please contact me asap. Thank you.
