Oh Really?

Shepard Fairey Art Installation @ War Room

Last night was the War Room's 4 year anniversary. It's one of the most popular venues in town and entire country! They have some ill original art by Shepard Fairey posted throughout its interior. Last night as celebration they unveiled all brand new custom work!!!

Wow, this stuff is ill. I played the early set for the invite only pre party before Fourcolorzack and Cosmo Baker got on and tore it down. I had to bounce out and get to my Casino gig at midnight. Another double duty evening.........

The Deli

Yesterday I attended the grand opening soiree of Seatowns newest clothing boutique the "Deli". Located at 87 Yesler Way in Pioneer square. As you can see they set it off real big with the jumbo shrimp bowl above. Too bad I don't eat those!!!

The sandwiches above are more more my steez. The shop is pretty slick. Set up just like a deli with the "TITS" shirts displayed in a butcher style glass case like steaks. They have a variety of hats, jackets, t shirts, button ups etc. Check them out when rolling through the town.

Memorial Day Madness

Last night for the third year in a row I played at Bryant Worthings B Day Bash. He is the director of promotion for the SG team. This year he had Slim from 112 perform. I was the sole dj for the evening and the homie Eddie Francis hosted the event.

It was still pretty thin in there around 11PM. Seattle always has late crowds which I still don't understand seeing how clubs close down by 2:00AM. By midnight the Showbox was jam packed. Slim did his thing and I proceeded to shut it down afterwards. It was a super dope crowd with a good vibe.

Got home at 5:00AM and caught some zzz's. Then it was off to the fam's for a bbq!

Had a great weekend overall. I'm so thankful for everything around me. Back to the DJ grind tomorrow.......

Jake One - "Home" - Video Shoot

My man Jake One recently shot the second video from his "White Van Music" album. He chose the track "Home" a song paying homage to the very streets of the 206 that he was raised on. It will feature the who's who of hip hop in the town from past to present.

As with any video shoot it was long day filled with a lot of entertainment. My scene was shot on broadway which is always a spectacle no matter when your there. There are just crazy characters on that particular block at all times.

We re-created the original Posse On Broadway scene with me and Sir Mix A Lot. Pretty funny and clever. I will post the video once it's ready to go.

Twin Cities - Last Day

How else would I start my day besides hitting up a record store?! Yes, don't think a true school head in this game still doesn't sniff out the og vinyl. The only thing I ended up sniffing out this place was dust, mold and mildew. 3 hours of pillaging through this establishment I left with absolutely nothing. Nada. Dusty fingered and empty handed. I still get an A for effort! Tonight was the 45 party. You know the drill. 7" 45RPM original pressing vinyl only jump offs.

I honestly don't get to do these types of parties that much so it's always a treat when I do. I played a variety of stuff, but you already know that ALL of it was funky!

Big shout to the team that do this event and to the staff at the venue for not only having me through but taking care of me and holding me down. Great event. Something you should check for when visiting the area.

The last few days have flown by and it seems like I just got here. Speaking of flying, I need to catch a plane back to Seattle in a few hours for See Sound Lounge. I'll let y'all know it goes........

Double Duty

I pulled double duty on the dj sets tonight. I started out rockin' the party at the Oasis Room. What a great way to start the night. I was just getting into it when it was time to shake the spot and hit First Avenue the next venue.

This is where they filmed Purple Rain. The place was huge and definitely had a good vibe going on.

It's always nice to walk into a great environment before even touching the decks. I knew I was gonna do my thing and I did.

Earlier in the day I hit up a fellow record nerd to see what he had up for grabs. When I walked in I seen this ill combination 8 track tape/record player called the Disco Tek by Soundesign. It was complete with flashing lights, bubble mirror back and rotating Disco Ball! (Not For Sale)

Pretty sick piece of history in my book. I will now be on the look out for one of these. So if anyone comes across one don't hesitate to hit me up. I wouldn't mind this addition to my collection. Also, picked up this poster for the recent Chi-Town soul show the Numero group did.

Wow what a line up! As if that wasn't enough I also, got my paws on this old school hip hop flyer as well.

It reads $5 before 8:30 on it. I guess cats used to go out mad early?! I'm pretty beat down and it's 4:00AM now. Gotta get some zzz's so I can re-up for two more gigs tomorrow night.

Twin Cities - Day One

Of course you already know this HAD to be my first stop. Although everything is different these days and I can no longer drive out of the lot with the car literally filled with records. I did managed to pick up two which is better than most days digging for me lately. After that caught a quick power nap then was off to the gig........

The fine walls inside the Triple Rock Social Club

The big homie (literally!) DJ King Otto set it off

Hometown favorite and all around cool dude Mike the 2600 king was on next.

I closed it out - Big shouts out to Burlesque of North America for having me through. You can check them out here: http://burlesquedesign.com/

Next stop: Rudoplh's for some Boogie and Modern Soul
